Meaning of the Sacrament of Baptism

Baptism is the first of the sacraments of the Catholic Church, the door that opens the way to the others. Through baptism, we are freed from original sin and reborn as children of God, members of Christ, and temples of the Holy Spirit.

The day of baptism marks the beginning of our Christian life and is a moment of great joy for the entire parish community.

Baptism Request

The request for the baptism of children must be made in writing, accompanied by the child's birth certificate or a photocopy of the family book. This request must be signed by both parents to avoid civil conflicts, especially when they are not married in the church.

Godparents

Requirements

They may have a godfather or godmother, or both.

Must be 16 years old

Must be confirmed

Must lead a life consistent with faith and the mission they will assume, or at least not be in an irregular public and stable situation

Must not be affected by a canonical penalty, legitimately imposed or declared

Must not be the father or mother of the person to be baptized
